Monthly Listening: September 2022
This month's round-up of great new Japanese releases from adieu, Petit Brabancon, YeYe and more
Hi! This is September’s Monthly Listening list, a quick rundown of new Japanese albums I checked out this month that I enjoyed. You can browse past Monthly Listenings in the archives.
The third quarter of the year is now over, and you know what that means: it’s time to get into year-end list mode. I spent some nights this month putting together a few drafts of the preliminary list for my favorite songs, sorting out what I really liked and setting aside some potential entries for further listening. It’s been all coming together smoothly actually, with a good top 50 tracks more or less settled, and soon, it’s going to be blurbin’ time.
Though I’m gearing up to reflect on what the year brought, the new releases don’t stop. Here are the albums I enjoyed checking out during September. Here is also the Spotify playlist of the top 40 songs I liked this month.

pop | ► “The Edge of Summer”
“Adieu remains a delicate balance act of personalities with its team establishing a voice that’s identifiable yet still malleable. A singular vision continues to guide the project with its central figure, actress Moka Kamishiraishi, as well as its contributing songwriters preciously playing with the project’s granted anonymity, never letting their voices overpower the personality at the center.” —Read more about the album on issue #58.
